The UFC has been very busy announcing fights this week and the second installment of UFC on Fox Sports had 7 fights announced topped by Lightweights Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (20-5) & Rafael Dos Anjos (19-5) will serve as the event co- main event.
Jackson’s/Winkeljohn’s fighter Donald Cerrone has won 3 of his last 4 fights defeating KJ Noons (UD), Melvin Guillard (KO), and Jeremy Stephens (UD); with his blemish in that time coming to Anthony Pettis.
Rafael dos Anjos has won 4 fights in a row over Kamal Shalorus (SUB), Anthony Njokuani (UD), Mark Bocek (UD), and Evan Dunham. Dos Anjos’s most recent win over Evan Dunham did come with a bit on controversy, as most people had the decision scored the opposite way; expect for the judges.
TUF season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum (6-0) who won The Ultimate Fighter at Middleweight will drop to Welterweight for his next contest and his first test outside of TUF action will be Paulo Thiago (15-5). At the TUF 17 Finale Gastelum defeated Uriah Hall by split decision. Paulo Thiago at UFC on FX 8 stopped a 2 fight losing skid by earning a unanimous decision win over Michel Prazeres.
A very pivotal Woman’s Bantamweight battle has made it’s way on to the August 28 card with UFC number 2 ranked Sarah Kaufman (16-2) facing number 4 ranked Sara McMann (7-0). Kaufman has won 4 of 5 fights including being on the winning side of a split decision against Leslie Smith. McMann’s most recent win came in her UFC debut, defeating Sheila Gaff by 1st round TKO; at UFC 159.
TUF Middleweight alum’s will meet when season 11’s Brad Tavares (10-1) collides with Bubba “The Menace” McDaniel (21-6). Xtreme Couture product Brad Tavares has won 3 fights in a row over Dongi Yang (UD), Tom Watson (SD), and Riki Fukuda (UD). Jackson’s/Winkeljohn’s fighter Bubba McDaniel has won 7 fights in a row including a submission win over Gilbert Smith at the TUF 17 Finale.
A Welterweight collision has been put together that will see James Head (9-3) takes on “Vicious” Bobby Voelker (24-9). James Head will be looking to bounce make from a TKO loss to Mike Pyle, that ended a 2 fight winning streak; in which Head had defeated Pappy Abedi (SUB) and Brian Ebersole (SD). In the same spot Bobby Voelker is coming off a decision loss to Patrick Cote that halted a 3 fight winning streak.
The TUF 11 winner Court “The Crusher” McGee (15-3)will square off with the TUF “Smashes” winner Robert Whittaker (11–2) in a Welterweight showdown. After a two fight losing streak at Middleweight “The Crusher” is coming odd a successful debut at Welterweight earning a unanimous decision win over Josh Neer. Whittaker has won consecutive fights over Brad Scott (UD), to win TUF “Smashes”; and over Colton Smith (TKO).
Last but not least Grudge Training Center’s Brandon Thatch (9-1) will be welcomed to the octagon by Team Jorge Gurgel member Justin “Fatseddy” Edwards (8-2). Thatch is on a 8 fight winning streak which includes back to back submission wins over Martin Grandmont ans Mike Rhodes. Edwards who has 6 of 7 stoppage wins is coming off a 45 second submission win over Josh Neer.
UFC on Fox Sports 1 2 takes place on August 28, at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, in Indianapolis, Indiana; and is headlined by “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit facing Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann.
