UFC Targeting UFC 166 for Velasquez vs. Dos Santos 3

At the UFC 161 open work outs Dana White announced that the UFC is hopeful to see the conclusion of the Cain Velasquez (12-1) Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos (16-2) Heavyweight title trilogy at UFC 166.

A date and a venue for UFC 166 was not given.

Since a UFC on Fox 1 loss to Junior Do Santos, Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 defeated Antonio Silva to become the number one contender. At UFC 155 Velasquez regained the UFC Heavyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Junior Dos Santos. Velasquez is now coming off of at UFC making his first ever successful title defense, defeating Antonio Silva by 1st round TKO. Velasquez is a member of the American Kickboxing Academy, who has 10 stoppage wins all by KO/TKO.

At UFC on Fox 1 Junior Dos Santos capped off a his 9th win in a row with a 1st round KO of Cain Velasquez capturing the UFC Heavyweight. At UFC 146 “Cigano” would stop Frank Mir by TKO retainign the gold. As we said above Dos Santos would loose his 2nd title defense to Cain Velasquez at UFC 155 by unanimous decision. Dos Santos has earned the number 1 contenders spot with a 3rd round knock out victory over Mark Hunt at UFC 160. JDS who train with Team Nogueira and Champion Team has 12 of 14 stoppage wins by KO/TKO.
