Josh Koscheck Force Out of UFC 163 Bout Against Demian Maia

The UFC has announced that an undisclosed injury will sideline Josh Koscheck (17-7) who was scheduled to face Demian Maia (18-4) at UFC 163 in a battle of top 10 Welterweights.

Josh Koscheck was heading into this fight for the first time in his career off of back to back losses to Johnny Hendricks (SD) and Robbie Lawler (KO).Prior to the losing streak Koscheck has won consecutive bouts over Matt Hughes (KO) and Mike Pierce (SD). With the retirement of Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar this, Koscheck along with Chris Leben, Diego Sanchez, and Mike Swick are the final remaining active fighters in the UFC from season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter.

Since dropping from Middleweight to Welterweight Demian Maia has won 3 fights in a row over Dong Hyun Kim (TKO), Rick Story (SUB), and Jon Fitch (UD). Maia one of the best Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world has 9 of 12 stoppage wins by submission.

It is unknown at this time if Maia ill remain on the UFC 163 card.

UFC 163 takes place on August 3 at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; and is headlined by Chan Sung Jung “The Korean Zombie” challenging Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight title.
