The Fighters Making Up The Bellator 97 Undercard

The Bellator undercards are traditionally mad up of local talent. Bellator 97 will not differ. The first match-up while officially not announced by Bellator looks like after a stir down at the New Mexico Stars game will be in the Bantamweight division pitting Judgement MMA’s Adrian “Killa” Cruz (4-0) against Mean 1 MMA’s Felipe “Flip” Chavez (6-3).

While not announced with match-ups Mike Barreras, Richard Jacques, Steve Garcia, Chris Leyva, Javier Palacios and Donald Sanchez have all been announced as competing on July 31.

Adrian Cruz last fought at Bellator 91 submitting Nick Gonzalez, by kimura with his legs. The win was the 3rd stoppage and 2nd via submission in Cruz’s career.

Felipe Chavez is coming off a submission win over Ronnie White in the main event of the inaugural  Triple A MMA  event .

Mike Barreras (5-5) has not fought since a 2009 submission win over Jeremy Martinez. Barreras has has himself pushed in the past going the distance with current UFC fighter Isaac Vallie-Flagg. Barreras has 4 of his 5 stoppage wins by KO/TKO.

Richard Jacques (1-0) is coming off a Triple A MMA, 2nd round TKO win over Eric White. As an amateur Jacques also went 1-0, defeating Juan Hidalgo by submission.

Steve “Mean Machine” Garcia (9-5) of the 4oz Fight Club last fought at Legacy FC 9, defeating Cody Williams by 1st round KO. The win ended what had been a 2 fight losing streak. Garcia has 4 of 6 stoppage wins by KO/TKO.

Chris Leyva (9-5) of Team Four Corners will be looking to halt what is a 4 fight losing streak. Leyva has 6 of 7 stoppage wins by KO/TKO.

Javier Palacios as an amateur went 2-0 with submission wins over Dario Chavez and Sammy Silva. In his pro debut Palacios would earn a unanimous decision win over Steven Ortega.

King of the Cage champion Donald Sanchez has won 6 of his last 7 fights. The one loss in this time was to Tatsuya Kawajiri by submission. Sanchez a touch tested veteran fighter has 23 of 28 wins by stoppage with 12 KO/TKO’s and 11 submissions. Sanchez’s last win in the cage came in January of 2013 when Sanchez stopped Matt Comeau by 2nd round TKO.
