Bellator MMA has announced that Micheal Chandler (12-0) will defend the Bellator Lightweight title in the co main event of the promotions first pay per view Bellator 106. Chandler however will not be defending against season 7 tournament winner Dave Jansen (19-2) but against the man Chandler defeated for the title Eddie Alvarez (24-3).

Since taking the title from Alvarez Chandler has defeated Akihiro Gono (TKO) in a non-title bout and successfully defended the title against Rick Hawn (SUB) and David Rickles (KO).

After months of contract negotiations and legal reader-rick to do with if fighting on Spike is the same as fighting on Fox, Eddie Alvarez is now still a member of Bellator MMA after a failed attempt at signing as a suppose to be free agent with the UFC. Since losing the Bellator Lightweight title to Chandler by submission, Alvarez has stopped Shinya Aoki (TKO) and Patricky Freie (KO) both in round 1.

Bellator 106 takes place on November 2 at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach , California. The main event will see a class of Light Heavyweight MMA legends with Tito “The People’s Champion” Oriz against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

I would say this is an odd move for the company that has title shots are earned not give, but after the legal battle Alvarez has been through; maybe he this shot is well earned.
