Bellator has announced the release of Jessica Aguilar (15-4), Jessica “Evil” Eye (10-1), and Felice “Pitbull” Herrig (9-4), effectively eliminating their Women’s divisions.

Bellator in 8 seasons has held only one women’s tournament at Strawweight (115 lbs.), which was won Zoila Frusto Gurgel with 3 consecutive bouts to win a title that she would never defend.

Bellator has said that they elected to release the final 3 women’s fighters on their roster for their own goods in stead of being left inactive and on the sidelines, as Bellator’s focus is currently in other places.

American Top Teams Aguilar is currently ranked number 1 in the world at Strawweight (115 lbs.). Aguliar is currently on a 6 fight winning streak.

Strong Style Fight Team’s Eye is currently ranked the number 1 Flyweight (125 lbs.) in the world. But, it is being rumored that Eye may be moving up to Bantamweight (135 lbs.) in order to join the UFC as they only have a women’s Bantamweight class.

Team Curran’s Herrig is a Strawweight, who is coming off a Bellator 94 decision win over Heather Clark. Herrig has already found a new promotion, signing a multi-fight deal with Invicta FC. Herrig is expected to make her Invicta FC debut later in the year.
