News on Bellator 100 & 103
Bellator 100 will feature the Welterweight season 8 tournament final and the season 9 tournament quarterfinals; on Friday, September 20th, at the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Bellator Welterweight tournament finals have twice before been postponed due to injury. Now with Doulas “The Phenom” Lima all healed up, Ben “Killa B” Saunders (15-5-2). Saunders is ready to avenge his loss to Lima in the season 5 tournament finals. Both fighters come from the famed American Top Team, Lima training at the Atlanta branch and Saunders at the Orlando branch. Saunders has defeated Koffi Adzitso (UD) and Raul Amaya in route to the tournament finals; while Lima stopped Michail Tsarev by TKO and knocked out Bryan Baker earning his spot in the finals.
The season 9 welterweight quarterfinals match-ups are Justin Baesman (14-3) vs. Brent Weedman (21-8-1), Vaughn Anderson (16-1-1) vs. War Machine (13-4), Luis Melo (29-11-3) vs. Matthew Riddle (7-3), and Mark Scanlon (9-2) vs. Herman Terrado (11-2)
Justin Baseman is entering his first Bellator tournament ona 4 fight winning streak, coming off a split decision win over Daniel Roberts at War MMA 1. Brent Weedman after a victory over Marius Zaromskis in the season 8 tournament quarterfianls was forced to pull out of the semifinals due to injury.
Canadian Vaughn Anderson has won 9 fights in a row and has 14 of 16 wins by stoppage with 8 having come by submission. War Machine is coming off of a promotional debut TKO win over Blas Avena.
For Matt Riddle this will be his promotional debut and the first time back in the cage since his win over Che Mills at UFC on Fuel TV 7, that was later overturned to a no contest due to Riddle failing the post-fight drug screen. Luis Melo has won 6 fights in a row, including a Bellator 94 submission win over Trey Houston.
Mark Scanlon comes into this fight off of defeating Alex Junis and in doing so scored his 7th career submission win. Herman Terrado a 2 time Strikeforce vet is riding a 7 fight win streak, that has seen all victories come by stoppage with 4 KO/TKO’s and 3 submissions.
It has also recently been announced that Bellator 103 in Mulane, Kansas on October 11th, will host the season 9 Featherweight tournament semifinals. The quarter finals are set with Patricio Pitbull (17-2) vs. Diego Nunes (18-4), Shahbulat Shamhalaev vs. Akop Stepanyan (12-2-1), Desmond Green (8-1) vs. Fabricio Guerreiro, and Andrew Fisher (12-4-1) vs. Joe Taimanglo.
