As was previously announced Alexander “Storm” Shelmenko (48-7) will defend the Bellator Middleweight title against season 8 tournament winner and former WEC Light Heavyweight champion Doug “The Rhino” Marshall (18-6).
The two were expected to meet earlier in season but due to injury Marshall withdrew from the bout and allowed season 8 tournament runner up to challenge and fall just short of dethroning the reigning champion.
In the co-main event Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (20-2), after defeating Diego Nunes (KO) and Fabricio Guerreiro (UD) meets Justin Wilcox (13-5), who came out victorious against Akop Stepanyan (SUB) and Joe Taimanglo (UD); in the season 9 Featherweight tournament finals.
Also on the main card in a Bantamweight encounter summer series tournament champion Marcos “Loro” Galvao (14-6-1) takes on Tom Mckenna (7-3). The Welterweight division will see the debut of Strikeforce and UFC vet Nah-Shon Burrell who will clash with the Renzo Gracie trained Dante Rivera (15-7).
