“The Atrisco Kid” Fidel Maldonado Jr. on Veterans Day put on a gritty yet powerful performance on Fox Sports 1 at the Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas; against Luis Ramos.
In the 1st round Maldonado battered an caused a cut in the left eyebrow of Ramos. Over the 2nd , 3rd, 4th, and 5th, rounds both fighters would take turns leading the dance. Ramos did well landing body shots slowing Maldonado down and protecting his cut from getting any worse. Ramos was being very effective with getting inside landing a few and getting back out of range. In the 6th round Maldonado would let his hands go and threw combinations, hurting Ramos who would fall after attempting an MMA style double leg take-down. Clinching for the last 90 seconds Ramos would make it into the 7th round. In round 7 Maldonado would come right at Ramos, who in the middle of being hit with a combination took a knee forcing the ref to stop the action. That was the 3rd knock-down of the bout.
