UFC on Fox 9 Injuries Force TUF 18 Finale Change

The injuries news surrounding UFC on Fox 9 just keeps coming. The 1st and biggest injury announced was that Anthony Pettis’s (17-2) knee will not allow him to defend the UFC Lightweight title against Josh Thomson (20-5-0,1nc.

Instead now headlining UFC on Fox 9, being moved form the TUF 18 Finale main event slot, will be the 2nd meeting of Joseph Benavidez (19-3) & Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (18-2-1) for the UFC Flyweight title. The second meeting of Grey Maynard (11-2-1) & Nate Daiz (16-9) will now serve as the main event for the TUF 18 Finale.

The changes don’t stop there as injuries have also knocked TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum (7-0) & former WEC Lightweight champion Jamie “C4” Varner (21-8-1). Gastelum was scheduled for a showdown with TUF 11 winner Court “The Crusher” McGee (16-3); while Varner was going to face fellow vet Pat “Bam Bam” Healy (29-17). Healy will instead collide with Bobby Green (21-5) who is coming off a strange TKO win over James Krause at UFC Fight Night 31. The opponent search for a replacement to face Court McGee is currently underway.

UFC on Fox 9 takes place on December 14 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California & The TUF 18 Finale takes place on November 30 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
