Cruz injured, Faber Faces Barao in New UFC 169 Main Event

The injury beg has latched on to Dominick Cruz (19-1) the first ever UFC Bantamweight champion who after twice tearing his ACL, now 4 weeks away from his return to the octagon has suffered a groin tear.

Replacing Cruz in the UFC 169 main event Bantamweight title bout against interim Bantamweight champion Renan Barao (31-1) will be Urijah Faber (30-6); who Barao defeated by unanimous decision at UFC 149 to claim the interim title.

Cruz has not fought since Octber 1, of 2011, when by unanimous decision “The Dominator” successfully defend the UFC Bantamweight title against; now UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

Barao a member of Nova Uniao is undefeated in his last 31 fights including a 21 fight winning streak. Bara has twice defended the interim Bantamweight title submitting Michael McDonald at UFC on Fuel TV 7; and scoring a TKO win over former WEC Bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland at UFC 165.

Faber the founder of Team Alpha Male is 7-2 in his last 9 fights with decision losses to Cruz and Barao. Since the loss to Barao “The California Kid” has defeated Ivan Menjivar (SUB), Scott Jorgensen (SUB), Iuri Alcantara (UD), and Michael McDonald (SUB).

UFC 169 takes place on February 1, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey; and will also see in the co-main event Ricardo Lamas challenges Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight title.
