Green out Varner in against Turjillo at UFC 169

The UFC has announced that at UFC 169, once again on short notice former WEC Lightweight champion Jamie “C4” Varner (21-8-1) will step up on to face a young fighter on the rise, this time being Able “Killa” Trujillo (11-5)

Varner is 4-2 in his last 6 fights, including a on short notice knockout of then streaking Edson Barboz at UFC 146, in a promotional return. Since that epic return “C4” has last a Fight of the Night awad wining bout to Joe Lauzon and won by split decision over Melvin Guillard; while losing a split decision most recently to Gleison Tibau.

Trujillo who was originally scheduled to face Booby Green, is a Blackzilian fight team member. “Killa” was signed to a UFC on the strength of a 4 fight win streak that extended to 5 with a debut TKO of Marcus Levesseur. Turjillo would then be smothered by Khabib Numagomedov for a unanimous decision loss. At UFC Fight Night 27 Turjillo would land a deemed by the referee knee to a grounded opponent to Roger Bowling ending the bout as a no contest. The two would face again at UFC on Fox 9 with Turjillo leaving no doubt, stopping Bowling in the 2nd round with strikes.

UFC 169 takes place on February 1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey; headlined by Renan Baroa and Dominick Cruz battling to unify the UFC Bantamweight title.
