Boetsch vs. Rockhold & Davis vs. Johnson at UFC 172

A pair of additions to UFC 172 were made official with the announcement that “The Barbarian” will meet the last Strikeforce Middleweight champion and “Rumble” collides with “Mr. Wonderful”.

After a knee injury stopped Luke Rockhold (11-2) the first time from battling Tim Boetsch (17-6) the bout, 4 months later has been given a second chances at seeing the light of day. Two years away from the UFC a change of weight class and some maturing has led Anthony Johnson (16-4) back to the Octagon with the former Welterweight now being at Light Heavyweight and being welcomed back to the promotion by Phil Davis (12-1-0-1, nc).

Rockhold bounced back from a promotional debut knock out loss to Vitor Belfort to knockout Costas Philippou in the main event of UFC Fight Night 35.

After dropping from 205 to 185 pounds Tim Boetsch would run off 4 straight wins before back to back losses to Costas Phlilppou (TKO) and Mark Munoz (UD). “The Barbarian” at UFC 166 got back in the win column, with a very close split decision win over CB Dolllaway.

Davis has won 3 fights in a row submitting Wagner Prado, and taking decision nods in victories over Vinny Magalhaes and Lyoto Machida. “Mr. Wonderful” is a wrestler with the ability to submit an opponent, and has show in his last to fights the ability to make a mart game-plan and stick to it.

Johnson was last seen in the UFC missing weight for a Middleweight bout and then being submitted by Vitor Belfort. Johnson has since won 6 fights in a row including in the World Series of Fighting knocking out DJ Linderman and Mike Kyle, not to mentioned also defeated Andrei Arlovski by decision at Heavyweight.

UFC 172 is on April 26, at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland; headlined by Glover Teixeira challenging Jon “Bones” Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight title.
