The Ultimate Fighting Championships today held a press conference in Mexico where is was announced that Fabricio Werdum (18-5-1) will challenge Cain Velasquez (13-1) for the UFC World Heavyweight title; after the two men serve as coaches on the 1st season of The Ultimate Fighter – Latin America.
The fight between Werdum and Velasquez will serve as the main event of UFC 180 on November 15 at the Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico; which will be the promotions first trip to the country.
The finals for TUF- Latin America, which will feature Bantamweights and Featherweights will also take place at UFC 180. The UFC has already announced that taping of the TUF – Latin America will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Werdum is 7-1 in his last 8 fights. Since returning to the octagon “Via Cavalo” has deicision wins over Roy Nelson and Travis Browne, while also TKO-ing Mike Russow; and submitting Antonio Nogueria.
Velasquez who will be looking to make his 3rd consecutive title defense is also on a 4 fight winning streak twice TKO-ing Antonio Silva and twice defeating Junior dos Santos, once by TKO and once by decision.
