There’s is so much news that comes out every week from the UFC that I decided to compile all the announcements into one weekly post called the UFC Blitz. For our first Blitz we have 12 fight announcements and changes.

 

UFC on Fuel TV:  Watson v Nedkov

The MFC Middleweight title is again vacant as the most recent title holder Sam Alvey (22-5) has been called up to the big league and will meet Tom Watson (16-7) at UFC Fight Night 47 in Bangor Maine, on August 16. Since a stint on TUF season 16 Alvey has went 3-1 including knock outs of Jay Silva, Jason South, and Wes Swofford. Watson has lost 2 in a row having dropped back to back decisions to Thales Leites and Nick Catone.

 

Ben Henderson

A match-up of top 5 Lightweights will headline UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa Oklahoma on August 23, as former Lightweight champion and UFC number 1 ranked Lightweight Benson “Smooth” Henderson (21-3) faces UFC number 5 ranked Lightweight Rafael dos Anjos (21-7). Henderson is coming off a UFC Fight Night 42 submission of Rustam Khabilov, while dos Anjos at the same event bounced back from a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov; with a TKO of Jason High.

 

The Ultimate Fighter Live Weigh In

Mr. bonus himself Joe Lauzon (23-9) has been set to take on TUF Live winner Michael “Maverick” Chiesa (11-1) at UFC Fight Night 50 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut on September 5. Lauzon is coming off ending a 2 fight skid with a decision win over Mac Danzig, while Chiesa has won 2 in a row over Colton Smith and Francisco Trinaldo.

 

Jacare

The UFC 176 co-main event will be in the Middleweight division featuring from Stikeforces champions opposing each other, with the former Light Heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi (35-4-2) against former Middleweight title holder Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (20-3). Mousasi after a debut 185 lbs. decision loss to Lyoto Machida, has solidified his spot in the division after submitting Mark Munoz in Germany. Souza has now 6 fights in a row over Bristol Marunde (SUB), Derek brunson (KO), Ed Herman (SUB), Chris Camozzi (SUB), Yushin Okami (TKO), and Francis Carmont (UD), UFC 176 take place on August 2, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

John Howard is injured and will not compete at UFC Fight Night 45, on July 16 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Howard’s opponent Rick Story (16-8), who is looking to rebound from a split decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum, will now meet Leonardo Mafra (11-1), who at UFC 14 was knocked out by Thiago Perpetuo.

UFC Fight Night 47 in Bangor Main will be headlined by UFC 174 Light Heavyweight winners Ryan “Darth” Bader (17-4) and Ovince St. Preux (16-5). Bader has won consecutive decisions over Anthony Perosh and Rafael Cavalcante. St Perux has won 5 fights in a row over TJ Cook (KO), Gian Villante (TD), Cody Donavon (KO), Nikita Krylov (TS), and Ryan Jimmo (SUB).

Featherweights Sean Soriano (8-1) and Andre Fili (13-2) will meet at UFC Fight Night 50  at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut on September 5. Soriano a member of the Blackzilians will be looking to rebound from a submission loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri. Fili a Team Alpha Male member is 1-1 in the UFC having TKO’ed Jeremy Larsen, and coming off a submission loss to Max Holloway.

UFC Fight Night 52 on September 20 at the Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan, has announced the addition of Miesha Tate (14-5) vs. Rin Nakai (16-0-1). Tate has lost 2 fights in a row to Cat Zingano (TKO), and Ronda Rousey (SUB). Nakai is a queen of Pancrase, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Invicta FC vet Sarah D’Alelio.

UFC Fight Night 44 on June 28 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, has been hit with a pair of injuries. In the Lightweight division, Joe Ellenberger (14-1) instead of facing Bryan Barberena will take on James Moontasri (7-1), in both fighters promotional debuts. Ryan Benoit is injured an instead Ray Borg (6-1) will square off with Shane Howell (13-7).

 

Daruish

A Lightweight bout between Beneil Dariush (7-1) and Tony Martin (8-1) has been added to UFC 176 at the Staple Center in Los Angeles California, on August 2. Dariush is 1-1 in the UFC with a win over Charlie Brenneman (SUB) and most recently a TKO loss to Ramsey Nijem, while Martin is coming off a promotional debut unanimous decision loss to Rashid Magomedov.

Ernest Chavez (7-1) is going to make his Featherweight debut against Mirsad Bektic (8-0) at UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on August 23. Chavez is dropping to 145 lbs. following a split decision loss to Yosdenis Cedeno. Bektic a member of American Top Team is coming off a majority decision promotional debut over Chas Skelly.
