XFC 28, the North American Return with Assuncao vs. Gerhart

After 6 months in Brazil growing XFC International, XFC has announced there North American return for later this fall. XFC 28 will take place in the companies home base of Tampa Bay, Florida; at the USF Sun Dome. Thus far 3 match-ups have been made official.

The main event will be a Featherweight number 1 contenders bout with Bellator vet Troy Gerhart (6-2) taking on UFC vet and former XFC Lightweight champion Junior Assuncao (15-5); for the right to challenge Deivison “Dragon” Ribeiro. Gerhart stared his career off with 5 straight wins and 4 came by (T)KO. After back to back losses to Luis Palomino and Patrick Cenoble, Gerhart went on a 3 year hiatus from the sport. In November of 2013 Gerhart got back into action scoring a 1st round TKO of Chris Tone. Assuncao has won 9 of his last 10 including submitting Guilherme Faria and defeating Alejandro Solano Rodriguez by unanimous decision at XFCi 5. Assuncao has 7 of 10 stoppage wins by submission.

In a Lightweight weight number 1 contenders bout pitting “Insane” Dave Courchaine (18-6) vs. Dom “I Hate You So Much” O’Grady (16-6-1), for the chance to challenge Scott “Hot Sauce” Hotlzman. Courchaine has won 11 of 12 and 3 straight, over Alexander Trevino (KO), Roy Bradshaw (TKO), and Abe Jacbs (SUB). Courchaine, know as “Insane”, has 16 of 18 wins by stoppage with 11 having come by (T)KO. O’Grady is a King of the Cage, Bellator, and Pancrase vet, who is 6-2 in his last 8 coming off an XFC 27 submission of Eric Reynolds. “I hate You So Much” has 6 of 9 stoppages by submission.

In a Women’s Flyweight feature fight Andrea “KGB” Lee (0-0) makes her pro debut against Suzie “La China” Montero (2-2). Lee is 7-0 in Muy Thia and as an amateur in MMA went (4-3). Montero after a pro debut decision win over Kim Couture, before suffering set backs to Jessamyn Duke (TKO), Pearl Gonzalez (SUB), before bouncing back with a decision win over Allanna Jones.
