More to the Story –

Combat Extreme on there facebook page had Josh Lenere vs. Mano Otero. But, Josh Lanier never agreed to the fight. No contracts were signed. According to Lanier who was at the event as a coach for main event fighter Mikey Lovato, Combat Extreme had contacted him once an proposed the bout, but nothing went further then that. The following was posted on Lanier’s facebook page-

“Attention all Big Country fans and friends. My name was put on a fight card without my permission or consent for tonight. Every one has been contacting me today for tickets. Please be advised if I would have signed to fight a contracted bout that I would have showed up on weight, and promoted the show as I always have. I take matters like this very serious as I have worked hard to build up the Big Country brand for my New Mexico friends, family and fans. That being said I apologize if you got tickets to see me fight. You guys can see me on episode 9 of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Ranch. Thank you and God Bless.”

Combat Extreme was something you had to see to believe. The minute you get out of your vehicle the over powering stench of menu-ewer filled the night air. The cage set up outside and the clouds rolling in. The event was set to start at 7:30 with the sun going down  and the lingering question of how the two 4-pack light post would illuminate the area after the sun sets. Even after the event is over I still have one unanswered question and that is was the event named “War of Warriors” a name the promotion had used some years ago, or was it “Unfinished Business” which was on my press pass, but was not the name the ring announcer was using.

This was to be an MMA event, a sporting event, but Combat Extreme went to the theater with the show must go on. When 5 of the announced 8 fights fell apart before the first bell.

With this event only having 3 bouts. Combat Extreme did announce that lasat nights ticket will get you 10$ off a ticket for the September 20, “Rumble at the Ranch”  at the Southwest Convention Center in Los Lunas, NM.

The two top are are you kidding me moments come from Paul Horton’s entrance to the cage being delayed by the last minute realization that not all, his necessary paper work had been signed. The other came when a drizzle came over the area  and the event was delayed, the moisture on the mat was cleaned by the ref and towels; in an awkwardly hilarious seen. It was obvious rain hitting the event had not be planned for, even with the consistent rain we’ve been receiving over the last 2 weeks.

The main event, the highly anticipated Legacy 30 rematch, ended inside round one. From the moment Mikey Lovato’s first take-down was stuffed to the point where he pulled guard you could feel something was different from this fight to the last. Take nothing away from Gene Perez who snapped the leg kicks and looked stronger then ever, but the awkward way Mikey Lovato quite left the crowd in a shocked. Following the loss we were able to find out that Lovato entered the fight with pretty damaged left knee. Lovato posted this on face book Sunday morning

“Good morning everyone, well last night things did not go as planned Gene Perez was the better man, my hats off to him good job winning the fight! I want to thank everyone for there support. Mentally I’m stronger than ever, but physically unfortunately my body is having problems keeping up with my heart and soul. I always knew there would be a day I would have to come to terms with that. I can comfortably say I am done stepping into the cage. As I said before there is no other rush like it and I’ve had a lot of fun. To be honest I’m going to gain 100 pounds and never think of cutting weight again that I will never miss. I am also excited to devote all my time to my wrestling team and of course to my beautiful family. So if you need help with wrestling come my way!!! Again thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me along the way!!! Everyone have a great day!!!”

The action was fast with 3 finishes in one round. The warriors that took the cage gave it everything they could. I got to commend them for going out being professional and still  fighting hard under the circumstances.

As for Combat Extreme as a promotion, this event shows that there are bug in there systems that need to desperately be corrected before September; a show that I can confirm will not be featuring Cody East in contrariety to what was being announced last night an what I wrote http://cagedminds.com/2014/07/combat-xtreme-announces-rumble-at-the-ranch-for-september/ on July 3rd.
