Dos Santos-Overeem & 4 More Additions to UFC on Fox 17
The long awaited, highly anticipated, Heavyweight collision, that has turned in a grudge match due to trash talking, between former champion Junior Dos Santos (17-3) and Alistair Overeem (39-14), who’s held a plethora of title outside the UFC; has been announced as the co-main event of UFC on Fox 17.
Dos Santos will be fighting for the first time in over a year. The Brazilian slugger was last in action at UFC on Fox 13, going through a war with Stipe Miocic, that saw Dos Santos take a unanimous decision win. Overeem has won 3 of 4 with back to back wins over Stefan Struve (ko) and Roy Nelson (ud).
Also recently added to the December 19th card is a lightweight bout between Michael Johnson (16-9) and Nate Diaz (17-10). Johnson will be looking to rebound from having a 4 fight win streak ended by a conterversial decision loss to Beneil Daruish. Diaz will be fighting for the first time since a UFC on Fox 13 unanimous decision loss, to now UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
Coming off a submission loss to Charles Oliveria, Nik Lents (25-7-2) returns to Lightweight to take on Danny Castillo (17-9), who’ll be looking to end a 3 fight skid.
Back from retirement and fresh off a pair of stoppage wins in Bellator Tamdan McCrory (13-3) makes his octagon return against Josh Samman (12-2), who’s won 4 in a row including knocking out Eddie Gordon at UFC 181 with a head kick.
losser of two in a row coming off a TKO loss to Kelvin Gastelum, Nate Marquardt (33-15-2) faces CB Dollaway (15-7) who’s in the same boat following a UFC 186 decision loss to Michael Bisping.
UFC on Fox 17 is on December 19th at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida; and is headlined by Donald acetone challenging Rafael Dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight World Championship.
