Benavidez vs. Makovsky slated for UFC 196

The newest bout added to UFC 196 is a Flyweight bout pitting number 2 ranked contender Joseph Benavidez (23-4) against number 8 contender, former Bellator Bantamweight Champion Zach Makovsky (19-6).

Benavidez a member of the Sacramento based Team Alpha Male is 8-2 since moving to Flyweight with both losses coming from champion Demetrious Johnson. Benavidez is currently on a 4 fight win streak with 3 straight decision wins over Dustin Ortiz, John Moraga, and Ali Bagautinov.

Makovsky is a Pennsylvania native, who’s 3-2 in the octagon with all fights going the distance. The wins have come over Scott Jorgensen, Josh Sampo and Tim Elliott; while the losses are to top 5 ranked contenders Jussier da Silva and John Dodson.

UFC 196 is on February 6th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada; and is headlined by Cain Velasquez challenging Fabricio Werdum for the UFC Heavyweight Championship of the World.
