Koreshkov’s 1st defense comes against Henderson
The biggest free agent signing in the history of Bellator MMA happen this week, as former UFC Lightweight champion, Benson “Smooth” Henderson (23-5) of the MMA Lab announced on his own blog, his change of promotions. Besides what is assumed to be a hefty pay day, it’s been has announced that Henderson will challenge Andrey “Spartan” Koreshkov (18-1) for the Bellator Welterweight title at Bellator 153.
Bellator 153 will be on April 22nd at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
After a August 2014, knock out loss to Rafael dos Anjos and a January 2015, controversial decision loss to Donald Cerroone. Henderson moved up to Welterweight and has since submitted Brandon Thatch and taken a split decision from Jorge Masvidal. Henderson is a BJJ who has 10 of 12 stoppage victories via submission.
Since losing to Ben Askren in his first attempt to become champion, Koreshkov has won 5 straight. The win streak was caped off, this past July, by a show case of his improved wrestling skills grinding out a unanimous win over Douglas Lima to become Welterweight champion. Koreshkov tho is mainly known as a striker with 10 wins coming by way of knockout.
