Former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler expressed his desire to make a quick turnaround and compete at UFC 205, Donald “Cowoy” Cerrone raised his hand accepting the challenge. Almost as quick as it was announced Lawler backed out.
Stepping in will be TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastleum who had been scheduled to face Jorge Masvidal a week prior at UFC Fight Night 98. The company is searching for a opponent for Masvidal. Gastelum is 7-2 in the UFC, coming off a unanimous decision win over former Welterweight champion Johny Hendricks.
Cerrone is 3-0 at 170, having submitting Alex Oliveira an scored TKO’s of Patrick Cote and Rick Story. Since moving up Cerrone has shown higher energy levels and been able to get started much faster then he used to.
It’s also been confirmed that former UFC Light Heavyweight champion “Suga” Rashad Evans will drop to Middleweight, meeting Tim Kennedy November 12th at Madison Square Garden in New York.
