Penn vs. Rodriguez Headlines UFC Fight Night Phoenix
January 15th, TUF Latino season 1 winner, Yair Rodriguez will compete in his 2nd main event,January 15th, but this time with the legend BJ Penn as his opponent.
A very interesting match-up, especially because both fighter have spent a good bit of time training at the JacksonWink Academy, even though Rodriguez is based in Chicago with Izzy Martinez and Mike Vallie, and BJ Penn also spends time in California and home in Hawaii.
Penn the former Lightweight and Welterweight world champion is hoping the 3rd time will be the charm or is this the 4th time? Penn had been expected to return to action at UFC 199 against Dennis Siver. Siver would withdraw from the bout and be replaced by Cole Miller. For using a IV, which is banned by USADA, Penn was forced to withdraw from the bout and served a 6-month suspension. Penn was next announced to main event UFC Fight Night 97, against Ricardo Lamas. A fight and event that was canceled after Penn withdrew with an injury. Penn will now again look to end a 3 fight losing streak and get a victory in 3rd different weight-class
Rodriguez is on a 7 fight win streak, including being 5-0 in the octagon, which includes a highlight knock out of Andre Fili. Rodriguez can be described as reckless, wild, and as one of the most creative acrobatic strikers the UFC has ever scene.
UFC Fight Night 103 takes place on January 15th, at the Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix, Arizonia.
