Belfort-Gastelum & Barboza- Dariush Happening in March in Brazil
The UFC’s first trip to Brazil in 2017, will be on March 11th, with a Middleweight bout between Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort & TUF 17 winner Kelvn Gastelum.
Belfort a former World Champion and multiple time title challenger will be looking to end a 2 fight skid. In fact Belfort has lost 3 of his last 4 fight. Win or lose “the Phenom” has not seen a 3rd round since 2013, going 4-3 on that span, with every fight ending in knock out.
Gastelum won TUF 17 as a Middleweight (185) and then decided he would rather compete at Welterweight (170). Fast forward to today, Gastelum has been scheduled to fight at Welterweight 8 times and only made the weight 4 of them. After not even attending the UFC 205 weigh-in’s, the UFC forced Gastelum to Middleweight. Gastelum then, at UFC 206 scored a 3rd round TKO of then top ten ranked Tim Kennedy; for his 2nd consecutive win.
The other announced bout will see number 4 ranked Lightweight contender Edson Barboza (18-4) against number 9 ranked contender Beneil Dariush (14-2). Barboza is a devastating striker who has won 3 of his last 4 fight win consecutive decision wins over Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez. Daruish was climbing the Lightweight contender ladder as 2016 began he had a 5 fight win streak. That was before a submission loss to Michael Chiesa. Daruish has since rebounded with wins over James Vick (ko) and Rashid Magomedov (ud).
