Former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva will be squaring off with fellow top 10 ranked contender, number 8 ranked Derek Brunson at UFC 208.
The 41 year old Brazilian, is a BJJ black belt with excellent Muay Thia, including devastating knees from the clinch. “The Spider” holds the UFC record for most consecutive title defenses at 11. Silva is win-less in his last 5, following a 17 fight win streak. In his last 5 Silva Clowned around and got knock out by Chris Weidman, broke his leg on a check kick in their rematc, defeated Nick Diaz to have it overturned by the athletic commission after testing positive in the post fight screen, lost a decision to now champion Michael Bisping in a fight that “The Spider” almost won by knock out, and lost a decision on day notice to Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
Brunson has developed into a very dangerous fighter, from a one-dimensional wrestler. Brunson has won 7 of his last 9 fight, coming off having a 5 fight win streak ended by a 1st round TKO loss to Robert Whittaker. During the win streak Brunson scored consecutive 1st round knock out wins over Ed Herman, Sam Alvey, Roan Carneiro, and Uriah Hall.
