Back in mid June Fidel Maldonado Jr. (24-3-1) captured the WBC Fecarbox Super Lightweight Title and it been made official that his first defense will be at the Fantasy Spring Resort Casino, in Indio California, on October 13th.
Looking to dethrone “The Atrisco Kid” will be fellow southpaw and former Interim World Lightweight champion Ismael Barroso (19-1-2). Barroso 34, last fought in May of 2016, suffering his first setback and losing his WBA Lightweight title to Anthony Crolla, by knock out. The loss end a 15 fight win streak, that included 14 knock out victories. Overall Barroso who fights out of El Tigre, Venezuela, has 18 of 19 wins by knock out.
Maldonado Jr. 26, from Albuquerque,NM, fights out of Atrisco Boxing and has 19 of 24 win by knock out. On a 3 fight win streak, the last 2 decision victories over Mohamed Rodriguez and Pablo Cesar Cano, have seen “The Atrisco Kid” display a full arsenal of technical skills. Working behind his jab, being defensively alert moving his head and feet. That being said Maldonado Jr. is still the guy that if you land and he wants to give one right back.
