Pair of intriguing bouts featuring top contenders added to UFC 219
The UFC has announced a pair of match-ups of top ten ranked contender for there year end show.
In the women’s 115 division Team Alpha Male’s undefeated Cynthia Calvillo, the number 7 ranked contender, will square off with number 8 ranked, and former champion Carla Esparza, of Team Oyama. Calvillo is 3-0 in the octagon with a pair of rear naked choke victories, and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Joanne Calderwood. Esparza is 2-1 since losing the title and having a 5 fight win streak snapped. Esparza most recently took a unanimous decision win over Maryna Moroz in June.
At Bantamweight former WEC & UFC champion, UFC commentator, and number 1 ranked contender Dominick Cruz will take on number 3 ranked Jimmie Rivera. The Alliance MMa product hasn’t fought since dropping the title to Cody Garbrandt last December. Rivera is a member of Team Tiger Schulman, who’s won 20 straight, and is 5-0 in the octagon.
UFC 219 is December 30 at the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
