Jackson’s MMA Series XXIII Recap & Results

The Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino hosts Jackson’s MMA Series XXIII. A 8-fight MMA card headlined by Clovis’s Roy “Hot Sauce” Saucedo against Santa Fe’s Ernesto “Lock Ness” Salvidez.

Saucedo a gritty fighter, returning to the cage for the first time in a year and half. Following an 8-2 amateur run, the Force of One trained fight made a successful pro debut submitting Nicholas Webb. Salvidez is a 2-time high state wrestling champion, 2x runner-up, has other notable BJJ accomplishments, went 4-0 with 4 finishes as an amateur, is 1-0 as a pro boxer, and at Jackson’s MMA Series XXI won his pro debut with a knock out of Rene Baustamante.

In the co feature Lutreel/Yee MMA & Gracie Barra Los Alamos product Joel Whitney, who’s called Albuquerque & Santa Fe, home squares off with Steven Ojeda from RHO in El Paso, Texas. This s the 3rd time these have been scheduled to compete.

Recap-

Fight number 1- 150: Randy Baker JacksonWink MMA, ABQ, NM vs. Independent fighter Brendan Trujillo from ABQ, NM. Trujillo took round 1 with effective counter striking capitalizing on Baker not setting  up his kicks. Baker would get taken down, with Trujillo transitioning to back mount in round 2. But Baker would spin into Trujillo’s guard and advance to mount stealing the round. In round 3 Baker would get 2 to Trujillo’s 1 takedown, to take a split decision win.

Fight 2- 135: Jose Rodriguez ANK Muay Thia, Santa Fe, NM vs. Quintin Carmichael Force of One Clovis, NM. After a couple of Carmichael kicks Rodriguez hit a double leg take and we spent the rest of round 1 on the ground. In round 2 Rodriguez took the fight right back to the ground, Carmichael trying to scramble gave his back, Rodriguez quickly slipped in the rear naked choke for the tap.

Fight 3- 145: Edwin Cooper JacksonWink MMA, ABQ, NMvs. James Pleasant RHO Martial Arts, El Paso, TX. Cooper got the body lock suplex slam takedown and Cooper stayed on top with slight ground and pound for round 1. Cooper with an immediate takedown to side control round 2. Cooper would remain on top the whole round. Round 3 Cooper body-lock takedown to side control. A Red stand up would lead to a Cooper trip for his 4th takedown of the fight.

Fight 4-125: Bryan Linares ANK Muay Thia, Santa Fe, NM by way of Guatemala, Mexico vs. Andre Mitchell Judgement MMA , Rio Rancho, NM, they clinch right way, Mitchell gets over unders scores a trip takedown. A scramble breaks out and instead of be able to spin into guard, which Linares attempted, Mitchell solidify’s back mount and slips in the choke forcing the tap.

Fight 5- Chris Cortez Force of One, Clovis, NM vs. Ambrose Vigil JacksonWink, ABQ, NM. Vigil worked his jab and leg kick early before Cortez completed 4 takedowns in round 1. Vigil came back in round 2 with more leg kicks, knocked Cortez back with a head kick. They exchanged takedowns for a close round. In the 3rd the power punches got Cortez to the inside to score 3 more takedowns. Also at a point action was stopped to have Vigil checked by the doctor cause of a cut on the bridge of his nose. Fight would end with Cortez having Vigils back.

Fight 6- Jesse Sander ANK Muay Thia, Santa Fe, NM vs. Matthew Adcock Force of One, Clovis, NM. After an exchange of legs, Sanders flashes his jab for a bit. Adock scores two takedowns, the 2nd a huge slam and stayed on top rest of the round. Twice in round 2 Sanders over committed on power strikes giving Adcock the opening for the takedowns. Round 2 ended with Sanders punching Adcock in the ribs trying to yank the arm free to complete a belly down armbar. Adcock would control round 3, with 3 more takedowns.

Fight 7- the co-main event at 145: Joel Whitney Luttrell/Yee MMA, ABQ, NM vs. Steven Ojeda RHO Martial Arts El Paso, TX. Whitney went into the clinch grinder on Ojeda, they broke apart exchanged hard kicks Whitney got the takedown transitioned to having the back, action is stopped after an illegal elbow to the back of the. The same situation happens again, for a 2nd foul Whitney is deducted a point. When action restarts Whitney gets the back for a 3rd time this time getting the choke to finish the fight.

Fight 8 is the main event 155: Ernesto “Lock Ness” Salvidrez Extreme Fitness/ Holmes Boxing in Santa Fe, NM vs. Roy “Hot Sauce” Saucedo Force of One, Clovis, NM. Saucedo early to the leg kicks, Salvidrez answers back with counter left hooks. Salvidrez almost has the back, in a separation Saucedo drops Salvidrez with a spinning back fist. Salvidrez survived ending the round on Saucedo’s back. Salvidrez got an early takedown in round 2. Saucedo got back to his feet and while there Salvidrez ate some strikes before another takedown and getting in Saucedo’s back. Salvidrez working a face crank while Saucedo punches. Saucedo spins to top position punches and the bell sounds to end round 2 as Saucedo had a rear naked. Round 3 opens with Saucedo landing a big right hand. Salvidez backs up Sauce charges in with a flying knee, leading to Salvidrez catching Saucedo and taking the back. Saucedo turns into the Salvidrez guard dropping punches. After 15 minutes we go to the judges for a unanimous decision in Saucedo’s favor.
