It’s about more then an MMA Event at Southwest Brawl 7

March 31, American  Fight League presents Southwest Brawl 7, the fight community will get together to not only support the fighters in the cage but also a special little fighter battling cancer.

Mia Ojeda, 2 year old daughter of bearded referee, Joel Ojeda, is battling stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer. Inside the cage, the refs job is to ensure a clean and safe fight. It’s now time for the MMA community to give a helping hand to the Ojeda family in their time of need.

Mia has already engaged in a long battle and she still has a hard road ahead of her. Treatment started in her hometown of El Paso, but she has had to move to Fort Worth to finish her treatments. Mia’s parents are right by her side, staying at The Ronald McDonald House. Mia has undergone eight rounds of strong chemotherapy, 15 surgical procedures including two major surgeries, a nine hour surgery to remove a tumor in her abdomen and a six hour surgery to remove a tumor on her heart. She is currently recovering from those surgeries and still needs stem cell replacement, a bone marrow transplant and radiation to go.

Joel will once again be stepping in the cage on March 31st to ref Southwest Brawl 7 and the Ojeda family will be selling Team Mia t-shirts to raise money for expenses at the event. In addition people can also purchase the Team Mia shirts by going here.

Fighters from the area have already been showing their support for Mia. On the way to the cage for his most recent amateur bout Austin Lewis wore on his T-shirt #MiaStrong. Amber Brown had #MiaStrong printed on the top she wore in her last Invicta fight. Levi Lucero will have Mai on waistband of his Boxing short at this weekends Route to Glory.

The card for American Fight Leagues, Southwest Brawl 7, at the Las Cruces, Convention Center is expected to feature as many as 15 live amateur and professional MMA match-ups, but remember card is subject to change. Fighters be will coming from all over the Southwest, including Juarez, El Paso, Las Cruces, Alamogordo, Albuquerque and Tucson to battle it out in the cage and support Mia’s fight against cancer.
