LFA 39 Recap & Results

Legacy Fighting Alliance is at the Dobson Arena in Vail, Colorado for LFA 39. In the main event Colorado’s own Ian “The Hurrance” Heinisch battles Brazilian Gabriel “Zangief” Checco for the interim LFA Middleweight title.

Ian “the Hurricane” Heinisch is a 2-time Colorado State wrestling champ, who’s coming off a LFA 31, knock out of Daniel Madrid. Gabriel “Zangief” Checco has submitted his last two foes but has been inactive for over a year an a half.

Recap- The night kicked off with a 3 fight amateur card. The first contest was in the Bantamweight division between Josiah Reyes & Ryan Marcinkevich. Marcinkevich landed some nice right hands early, before taking the fight to the ground. Marcinkevich would twice take the back & got deep on a couple leg locks but couldn’t find the finish.

In round 2 Reyes found his range landed both over hands and his leg kicks. Reyes would score a take-down and advance to mount punching till the finish. Contest number 2 was in the lightweight division between Chris Roybal & Matthew Powers. A back an forth round one where Roybal got off with his striking, Matthews stuck his head in a guillotine, slide out almost had the rear naked choke and they where scrambling to end round 1. Powers doesn’t get off the stool for round 2 appearing to be injured.

The amateur card finished up with a women’s featherweight bout between Carmen Sage & Jesonna Ollis. Sage pushing forward landing leather early. Ollis answering back with leg kicks. Ollis scores a knockdown off a over hand right. Sage back to her feet gets Ollis on the cage completes the take-down and is in half guard to end round 1. Sage waists no time with the take-down in round 2. Ollis survives a mounted ground an pound assault sweeps but is caught and forced to verbally submit from a belly down armbar.

The AXS TV main card started off with Youssef Zalal against Daniel Soto at Featherweight . Zalal came out landed a hard kick to the liver. From there the Moracin showed off his ground game busting Soto open over his right eye in the first round. Zalal would get the fight right to the ground again in the 2nd, this time taking the back and finishing the fight with a rear naked choke.

Next came 140 catchweight bout between Turrell Galloway, who took the fight on 48-hours notice against  Ahmet Kayretli blasted away with leg kicks before getting caught an knocked down by and overhand. Kayretli recovered hit a take-down and finished out the  round on top. Kayretli piling up the leg kick and Galloway is bleeding from the top of his head from either a heel or glancing knee. Backed against the cage Kayretli dropped Galloway with a body shot took the back but couldn’t find the choke.  Kayretli ends round two on top working his ground and pound. The Galloway corner waves the bout off after round 2.

Next came a Lightweight contest as Harvey Park took on Austin Hubbard. The first frame was controlled by the Park leg kicks and right hand. Round 2 both men scored take-downs and had the others back. A last second take-down from Hubbard could have stolen the round. Trading punches on the feet Hubbard ducked under came around and took Park to the ground in round 3, holding the top position and escaping an armbar to grind out round 3.

Next we headed to the women’s strawweight division fro Maycee Barber vs Audrey Perkins. Perkins worked her jab-cross combination, Barber caught on  opening up with kick and knee. A caught kick saw Barber put on her back and she went to her submission game throwing up a triangle and armbars, ending the round having Perkins back. In the 2nd Barber again found herself playing from her back and Perkins spent most of the round defending triangles and armbars. Barber found her striking flow in round 3 the diversity of the angles that the kick and punches where coming from was poetry. A left uppercut hurt Perkins, a straight left followed scoring the knock down and follow up ground and pounded from elbows and punches get the stoppage in round 3.

Featured Flyweight contest came next between Brandon Royval & Jerome Rivera. Royval twice clip Rivera on the chin early. Royval comes in with a flying knee connects with and dislocates Rivera’s arm. As Rivera tries to call the fight off Royval lands a chase down from behind head kick. Royval get the win b by TKO in 40 seconds.

In the co-main event Brazil’s Christiano Frohlich took on Hayward Charles. Frohlich was confident in host striking early but the tide swung after a right over hand. Charles would end the round with a guillotine locked in.  The 2nd round would see Charles  score with elbows in the clinch and close out the round again hunting the submission. Charles would pull guard and hold on for the final 5 minutes taking a decision winning the first 2 rounds.

In the main event Ian Heinisch and Gabriel Checco brawled for the LFA interim Middleweight Title. Heinisch came out took his time, chopped at Checco’s legs, and uncorked a perfectly timed overhand right hitting Checco behind  the ear and finishing the fight with a flurry of short punches. By first round knock out Ian Heinisch is the interim LFA Middleweight Champion.
