A meeting between top 10 ranked 135ers has made it way on to Septembers UFC 228.
Number 5 ranked contender Jimmie “El Terror” Rivera will square off with TUF 14 winner, number 7 ranked contender John “The Magician” Dodson.
UFC 228 is scheduled for September 8, location hasn’t been announced. Already on the card is a Featherweight bout between Zabuit Magomedsharipov & Yair Rodriguez. Not official yet but all signs point to Nicco Montano defending the UFC women’s Flyweight title against Valentina Schevchenko will be the main event.
Rivera (21-2) looks to get right back on the horse with this quick turnaround. Rivera’s 90 suspension, he received after a 33 second knock out loss to Marlon Moares will have just ended when he meets Dodson. The 28 year ole member of Tiger Schulman MMA, won 20 in a row before the loss to Moraes, including 5 consecutive wins to start his UFC tenure, none bigger then a decision over Urijah Faber.
Dodson (20-9) a long time staple of JacksonWink MMA is coming off a decision win over Pedro Munhoz. The former two time title challenger at Flyweight has 11 finishes, 9 by knock out. The 33 year ole, husband & father of two, has an incredible first step and packs a big left hand.
