Fight Night 4 Recap & Results

Live inside the Showroom at the Isleta Resort & Casino, for Fight Night 4 presented by Fresquez Productions. A 8-bout MMA Card with 3 amateur & 5 professional contests. The main event at Bantamweight, Steve “Mean Machine” Garcia vs. Abel Cullum.

The first fight a women’s Flyweight contest bout. Lydia Warren nailed Alexandra Castillo with some heavy right hands. Warren took the fight to the ground, took the back and forced in a fight finishing first round rear naked choke.

Fight 2 a Feathering contest between Matthew Corenero from Perez Fighting Systems & Alex Cardenas from JacksonWink MMA. Corenero comes out working his low kicks & lands a spinning backfist. Cardenas follows Corenero to the fence after the backfist and a Corenero level change meets a Cardenas knee. Corenero goes down, a few follow up hammerfists see the ref jump in to waive the bout off.

Fight 3, the final amateur contest at Flyweight, Aaron Taylor from Perez Fighting Systems against Cole Griego from JacksonWink MMA. Taylor came out winging big overhands. Griego level changed, Into a successful takedown, got the back, and slipped in the rear naked choke for the finish.

Fight 4 opened up the pro card as Henry Barahona from JacksonWink MMA took of Andrew Sosa from Dallas, TX. After feeling each other out with kicks, the fight went into the clinch. Barahona dropped down and completed a double leg takedown to side control, softening up Sosa with elbows. Than jumping on a kimura to finish.

Fight 5 is a women’s strawweight bout as Kali Robbins from Red Schaffer MMA squares off with Celine Haga from JacksonWink MMA. The first frame was primarily a Boxing match. Both looked to establish the jab and score well with right hooks. Haga added elbows while in close, but Robbins has the cage control in the clinch. In the 2nd Robbins took Haga down early accumulating more contol time. Haha got back to her feet and from there it the Haga jabs and step in elbows against the Robbins overhands. Round 3, like the other two was back and forth. Robbins brought the pressure, winging overhand looking to clinch. Haga  scores with her left hand and elbows. In the end the Judges return a split decision in favor of Kali Robbins.

Fight 6, Austin, TX, Warren Stewart vs. Chris Brown from JacksonWink MMA at 165 lbs. Brown flicks out some wary kicks, they end up in a scramble where Brown takes a thumb to the eye. Action restarts, Brown fighting with his right eye almost fully closed. Brown is flicking out single strikes and exploding into the Thia clinch blasting away with knees. Stewart hunting for the knockout throwing bombs. Brown finds a takedown ending the first in half guard. Brown battles right into the clinch, throws Stewart back to the ground. Brown grinding away on Stewart taking the back hunting the choke, but a gritty Stewart wouldn’t tap. Round 3 begins with Brown again thgrowing Stewart to the ground and taking his back. Unhappy with the work rate on the ground we see the ref stand them up. Round 3 ends with Brown looking for knees in the clinch.

Fight 7, the co-main event, at Flyweight Marquis Smith from Pete Sprat Muay Thia vs Ricky Esquible from JacksonWink MMA. Smith came out looking for the home run swing. Esquibel would counter with the takedown. After escaping a kimura Smith would score his takedown, making round 1 close to call. Esquibel would attack the takedowns in the 2nd. Smith would battle back to his feet and again scoring his own takedown. Esquibel would cause a scramble getting back to his feet. Esquibel would find his back against the cage. Smith opens up with knees and punches forcing ref Robert Romero to jump in and waive off the fight.

Fight 8, the main event, a 5-round Bantamweight bout, pitting Abel Cullum from Force of 1 against Steve Garcia from JacksonWink MMA. Garcia immediately lowered his stance to be eye level with the short Cullum. Garcia then started to fire off sniper like left hands. Cullum countered with big hooks cornering Garcia and initiating the take-down attempt. Garcia would stuff the Cullum take-downs, leading to Cullum going to his own back. Garcia would follow to the ground and outside of an illegal knee to Cullum’s head, Garcia would devastate Cullum with heavy ground and pound. Even busting Cullum open on his right cheek & the right side of his skull above his ear, with elbows strikes.  As the bout wore on Garcia, a southpaw, maintained his distance, sticking Cullum with  jab-cross combinations. Garcia was the one on top when they hit the ground, besides one armbar and one guillotine attempts, Cullum was rendered ineffective, absorbing damage, getting beat into a bloody swollen mess. The judges returned a unanimous decision in favor of Steve Garcia Jr., in the bloodiest fight I’ve ever seen live.
