At the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, for King of the Cage “Starbound II”, a nineteen bout Mixed Martial Arts event.
Opening up the card Jorge Kanankoquie hit David Hudson with an early high kick. Hudson attempted to close the distance eating two from Thai clinch position and the fight was done. Kanankoquie winner first round knockout
In Heavyweight action Billy Ray Valdez went with a high pace wreath attack wearing out Kristopher Christian, forcing a submission to strikes, while being stuck face down. Valdez winner by second round TKO.
At 135 lbs. it took only thirty seconds as a Luis Rivera Santiago right cross drops Ozzy Chavez the follow up punches are academic. Santiago with the first round TKO victory.
At Welterweight Drew Johnson & Keith Dawson kept it standing for 3 rounds. On the strength of moving forward, early leg kicks, and a sneaky right hand, Dawson took the split decision win.
Manny Najera & Ty Miller went three rounds in a JR welterweight contest. Najera complete two take-downs each round en route to a dominating a vast majority of the contest.
Kemoy Anderson took a wrestling approach to his bout Welterweight against Sterling Peak. After the second takedown, the ref stood then for inactivity. On his third takedown, Anderson would get trapped in and be forced to tap from a guillotine.
At 125 lbs. Francisco Dominguez wasted no time looking to take Alen Dudo to the ground. Dudo reveresed position and immedebtly got caught in a fight ending armbar.
Chris Rojas went to his wrestling, using double leg takedowns to put Mario Marquez on the mat. Marquez would give back, Rojas flattened him out, pounding to the finish.
It only a few strikes from Veronica Garcia for Sarino Ochoa to realize she wanted the fight on the ground. Ochoa took Garcia down, advance to pound and pounded till the ref jumped in.
Nathaniel Torrez & Thomas Horton battled right into the clinch, exchanging knees. Horton pulled guard and while throwing his arm up Torrez body weight came down and Horton verbally submitted from the pain of an apparent shoulder injury.
Daniel Martinez met Erick Silva at 180. Martinez closed the distance, from the clinch snuck around to the back, forcing Silva down. Martinez got two high on the back losing his position, but grabbed a hole of Silva’s left arm forcing a tap form kimura.
The final amateur bout a strawweight super fight Title bout between Austin Lewis & Oscar Herrera. Round 1 saw Lewis score the takedown but most just fought off submissions. Herrera had a strong second frame with accurate right hands. Lewis made the third a clinch battle sticking knees to the body, but ended the round on bottom. Round 4 Lewis came close with rear naked, lost position but also throw up a close triangle choke attempt. The 5th round Lewis walks down Herrera pining him on the cage and scoring a late takedown. The judges return a unanimous decision in favor of Austin Lewis.
Opening up the pro card was Charlie Williams versus Jesus Orta. Early Williams jumped in a guillotine choke taking the fight to the ground. Orta would escape but Willians would mange to take the back and sink in a rear naked choke for the tap in round 1.
At 125 lbs. Turrell Galloway came out early with chopping leg kicks, but slowed quickly. Tongvan would manage to trap Galloway on the fence with his lefts cleanly finding Galloway’s chin and overwhelming till the ref jumped in waiving off the fights.
At 150 lbs. it tookJon Sparks one minute to dispatch of Joe Veloz. Veloz went right after the takedown, Sparks stuffed two attempts, hiring Veloz with a right cross, dropping Veloz with a right uppercut, and getting the finish after a few follow punches in the ground.
At 165 lbs. Evan Delong watsted no time looking for the takedown. The move would cost him giving his back, but Delong would escape, hop in Ellis’s back and lock in the rear naked choke finish.
At 135 lbs. Josh Montoya would score two take downs on Gene Perez, after a refree stand up the first time, Montoya would take the back the second time sinking in a rear naked choke to end the bout.
The co-main event took place at Lightweight with Derek Perez from Perez Fighting Systems against Nikko Nathan from Force of 1. Nathan would win round one taking Perez down and bust him open outside of his left eye. Perez would come in the 2nd & 3rd behind crisp boxing combinations and the occasional high kick to outwork Nathan for the decision win.
The main event a KOTC Jr. Welterweight Title bout as Sherwin Price defend against Nick Angeloni. After feeling the Price strikes, Angeloni would go all in on a relentless wrestling attack. Angeloni would on several occasions come close to the finish with the rear naked choke. Each time the fight was at striking distance Price was landing left uppercuts and right overhands. In the end Angeloni would wrestle the title away from Price by split decision.
