Interim Lightweight Title Fight Added to UFC 236

Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier & UFC Featherweight Champion Max “Blessed” Holloway will battle for the second time, and this go around has a Lightweight belt up for grabs.

Holloway made his octagon debut on short notice against Poirier back at UFC 143. Poirier would win that meeting by submission from a triangle/armbar combination.

Poirier a Louisiana native, who’s unbeaten in his last five fights. “The Diamond” has scored finishes in his last three victories, defeating Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, and Eddie Alvarez.

Holloway from Hawaii is on a thirteen-fight win streak. “Blessed” successfully defended his title for the second time at UFC 231, when Brian Ortega didn’t answer the bell for the beginning of the fifth round.

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently serving a suspension for his involvement in the brawl that broke out after the main event of UFC 229.

UFC 236 already has an interim Middleweight title bout. Kelvin Gastelum fighting Israel Adesanya, because Champion Robert Whittaker is on the mend after hernia surgery.
