Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino host las Jacksons MMA Series XXVII, featuring Santa Fe’s, NM, own Jerome “The Renegade” Rivera vs. Gene “The Kid” Perez from Belen, NM.
The opening bout of Jackson’s MMA Series XXVII saw Luis Rivera Santiago from JacksonWink against Randy Ramos of RHO/Kensho Satori. Santiago quickly found his range and let go with his right hand. Ramos would eat a pair of heavy right hands on the chin, that have the El Paso naive curl into a defensive shell. Santiago open up letting the fist fly. Ramos would go down and a few follow up ground and pound shot would be the ref jump in.
The 2nd fight saw Charles Gillespie of ANK Muay Thai against Jacob Martos of Gracie Barra Las Cruces. From the opening bell Martos was the aggressor scoring with his right hook. Martos would take the fight to the ground a trio of times. Finding himself on bottom Martos sucked Gillespie into a triangle choke and got the tap from an armbar on Gillespie’s free arm.
Fight 3 had Swagath Pillai of JacksonWink vs. James Pleasant from RHO/Kensho Satori. Pillai hit two takedowns in the first round working from side control the majority of the time. Pleasant came back in the second with straight kicks and punches, keeping Pillai on the back pedal. In round 3 Pleasant backed down Pillai to the fence, tainted and then scored a the knock out with a left head kick.
Fight 4 saw Chris Rojas from JacksonWink against Dakota Munro from Kingdom BJJ/Alpha Ape. The first combination Rojas throws a left hook and a big right hand Land clean. Munro goes down Rojas adds a punch from over top as the ref dives in for the win. A nine second knockout.
Fight 5 has Derrick Garcia from JacksonWink against Mario Suazo from Factory X. Suazo took the lead in the first round scoring with combinations and even securing a takedown. Suazo kept up the pressure, kept throwing his hook to uppercut combinations and eventually cornered Garcia, throwing strikes until the ref stepped for the 2nd round finish.
Fight 6 Richard Villegas from Jackson’s MMA Association Acoma against John Calderon from RHO/Kensho Satori. Calderon immediately takes this bout to the ground Villegas cage-walks, burins doing so gave his back. Calderon forces in the rear naked choke and with seconds left in the round Villegas goes to sleep.
Fight 7 Alex Cardenas from JacksonWink against Quintin Carmichael from Force of One. After a quick exchange of strikes, Cardenas closed the distance into the clinch. Cardenas dragged Carmichael to the ground. Carmichael tried to create a scramble gave his back up, Cardenas flattened and pounded to the finish.
Fight 8 had Dan Argueta squaring off with Richard Jennings from Desert Dynasty MMA. Argueta felt out the fight on the feet for a few seconds then completed a blast double leg takedown. Argueta would advance to mount, Jennings bucks cause a scramble, but gives his back. Argueta takes advantage of the opening sinking in a fight finishing rear naked choke.
Fight 9 is the co-main event Calob Ramirez from Luttrell/Yee MMA & Fitness against Rakim Thorpe from JacksonWink. The first round was control by the of Thorpe with 2 successful takedowns. Thorpe after faking the level change put Ramirez on his backside with and overhand. Ramirez with feet on hips would get back to a vertical base. Thorpe would find the takedown again and would have positional control the rest of the round. Ramirez could never fully get away from Thorpe’s grasp, even though twice Ramirez landed hard enough that you felt the finish could be imitate, but was Thorpe to go back to his wrestling and grind up a big part of the final round.
Fight 10 the main event Jerome Rivera from Luttrell/Yee MMa & Fitness meeting Gene Perez from Perez Fighting Systems. Perez initiates the grappling, while trying to get the takedown Rivera is able to land elbows strikes. Rivera spend the rest of the first round on Perez back hunting the finish. We get back to the ground in the Seinfeld with Rivera on top. Rivera would attempt a risky move the mounted triangle. Perez would escape the initial attempt, but Rivera was able to redecorates the submission and force the tap.
