A strawweight match-up between Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza & Alexa Grasso has been announced for the UFC return to Mexico City.
Eparza (14-6) was the inaugural Invicta & UFC starwweight champion. Currently ranked as the number 9 contender, the Team Oyama member ended a 2-fight skid this past April handing Virna Jandiroba a decision loss.
Grasso (11-2) from Guadalajara, Mexico, fights out of Team Lobo and is the number 10 ranked contender. The 25-year-old picked up the biggest win of her career at UFC 238, scoring a unanimous decision over former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
UFC on ESPN+ 17/ UFC Fight Night 159 will be September 21st at the Mexico City Arena. No other fights have been announced for the card, but at the UFC 239 press conference Dana White said that Yair Rodriguez would be part of the event.
