The Atrisco Kid Headlines Holmes Boxing “Warriors Collide”

Holmes Boxing will be back at the Embassy Suites on Saturday August 17th to present “Warriors Collide”. The main event will see “The Atrisco Kid” Fidel Maldonado Jr. squaring off against Colorado’s Juan “Chango” Santiago.

Maldonado Jr. is a 28-year-old whose won consecutive bouts by decision, defeating Luis Gerardo Avila I the main event of Cold War 5 & beating Johnny Rodriguez in the main event of Duke City Lions. In fact, “The Atirsco Kid” has won his last 3 by decision, but don’t forget the father of three has 19 of his 26 victories by knockout. Over his last 5-fights we’ve seen very tactical performance from Maldonado Jr. a contrast from the brawls he’d get into early on in his career.

Santiago will be returning to the ring after 2-years away from action. The Denver resident stepped away from the sport after a split decision win over Robert Rodriguez. “Chango” has finish in just over half his victories, 9 of the 16 coming by knockout., but has also been stopped in 50% of his losses. A pro since 2007, this will be the first time Santiago competes in “The Land of Enchantment”, having mostly fought in his California & his native Colorado.

At this point no other fights have been by Holmes Boxing. The co-main event is expected to see Espanola’s Leanna Martinez in action. The 27-year-old has half of her win by knockout and looks to rebound from her first set back. A decision loss to Amy Salinas at Cold War 5.

The card will also see former KOTC champion Donald Sanchez an mma vet with over 50-fights under his belt in action. Sanchez has professional kickboxing experience to go along with having had 5 Boxing matches to this point. As far as the sweet science goes Sanchez stopped Eric Grant in his last Boxing match which was part of the King of Sparta 0ne-night tournament in June of 2018.

Santi Giron will make a second attempt at making his pro debut. The Power & Glory Boxer had expected to make his pro debut at “Duke City Lions”, but on fight day a family emergency forced his opponent off the card.  According to Giron’s trainer they are set to lock horns with Jose Viapondo.

Santa Fe’s Aaron Martinez returns to the ring after a year away. The 27-year-old last fought in May of 2018, picking a decision win over Eberardo Lopez.
