Whittaker vs. Adesyana Middleweight Unification bout set for UFC 243

Prior to the UFC 239 ceremonial weight-in’s the Ultimate Fighting Championship held a press conference inside the T-Mobile Arena featuring the main event match-ups for the next four pay per view events. At this time, it was made official that interim middleweight champion Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesyana & champion Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker will meet in a title Unification bout, headlining UFC 243.

Adesyana (17-0) is unbeaten in MMA after having reached the pinnacle on professional kickboxing. The Nigerian is 6-0 in the UFC, with TKO’s of Rob Wilkinson & Derek Brunson. At UFC 236 “The Last Stylebender” captured the interim title defeating Kelvin Gastelum by unanimous decision. The 29-year-old has a 76% finishing rate inside the cage. All thirteen finishes have come by way of knockout.

Whittaker (20-4) is on a 9-fight win streak. The Australian claimed the title belt by defeating Yoel Romero by unanimous decision at UFC 213. The two were rescheduled for a rematch at UFC  225, a non-title bout after Romero failed to make weight. Whittaker would win the second encounter by split decision. The next title defense for “The Reaper” was set for UFC 234 against Kelvin Gastelum, but that fight would get cancelled as Whittaker was hospitalized because of a collapsed bowel and an internal hernia. The 28-year-old also nickmaned “Bobby Knuckles” has a 70% finishing rate with 14 finishes 9 knockouts & 5 submissions.

UFC 243 will be October 5th at the Docklands Stadium, in Melbourne, Australia.
