The first night of a Bellator MMA back to back at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Night one is Bellator 235, Salute the Troops. The eight-fight card is headlined by a Heavyweight bout between “The Warmaster” Josh Barnett & Brazil’s Ronny Markes.
Barnett is a former UFC champion who’s also fought for Pride & Strikeforce. Markes is a UFC & PFL vet, who’s won three of his last five fights. “The Warmaster” returns to the cage after three years away due to an issue with USADA. Where the anti-doping organization found that Barnett had tested positive for a banned substance that he unintentionally ingested. As it was not on the products label but was found in the product. Barnett has 29 stoppage victories, 10 by knockout, & 19 by submission. Markes has 12 finishes, seven knockouts, & five submissions.
In the co-main event, we’ll also see the promotional debut of Erik “El Goyito” Perez a UFC & Combate Americas vet. Perez will face Toby “2 Quick” Misech who earned a spot on the contender series after a four-fight win streak. After losing a decision to Ricky Palacios, “2 Quick” signed with Bellator. Last December Misech sorec a TKO win over Edward Thommes. But is looking to rebound from a February loss to former champion Eduardo Dantas.
*During the event Bellator President Scott Croker broke news that the co-main event had been elevated to main event status, after the Hawaiian commission pulled Josh Barnett from his fight with Ronny Markes due to illness.
