In April the UFC will return to Cornhusker state for the first time in 8-years.
The main event will be a light-heavyweight contest between former title challengers, number 3 ranked contender Anthony “Lionheart” Smith faces number 9 ranked contender Glover Teixeria. Smith is a Nebraska native, who’s won four of his last five fights. We last saw Smith in action in June of 2019, scoring a fourth-round submission win over Alexander Gustafsson. Teixeria is on a three-fight win streak that includes submission wins over Karl Roberson & Ion Cutelaba.
The co-main event will see number 12 ranked women’s flyweight contender Antonia Shevchenko welcoming number 10 ranked women’s strawweight Cynthia Calvillo to 125lbs. In August Shevchenko rebounded from her first career loss by submitting Lucie Pudilova. In December Calvillo missed weight for her last fight by 4.5lbs. leading to this move up a weightclass. After the miss hap on the scales, Calvillo regrouped to battle Marina Rodriguez to a majority draw.
UFC Fight Night Smith vs. Teixeira or UFC on ESPN+ 31, which ever you like, will be April 25th at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.
