Bader-Nemkov title bout headlines Bellator 243

For the first time since November 2017, the Bellator light-heavyweight title will be on the in May.

May 9th Bellator 243 will take place at the Sap Center in San Jose, California. In the main event two division champion Ryan “Darth” Bader (27-5) will defend his 205lbs. title belt against Vadim Nemkov (11-2). The announcement came during the main card of Bellator 238.

Since successfully defending the light-heavyweight title at Bellator 186, against Linton Vassell, Bader has fought his last four at Heavyweight. Winning the Bellator Heavyweight grand prix with two first round knockouts. This past September, Bader defended the heavyweight title against Cheick Kongo. Bader was dominating the bout before an eye poke lead to a no contest. The Power MMA rep now returns to the division he had competed in his for his entire career.

Nemkov is on a six-fight win streak, including being 4-0 in Bellator. The Russian fighter made a huge first impression in his promotional debut scoring a first-round knockout of Philipe Lins. Nemkov followed it up by leg kicking his way to a TKO victory over Liam McGeary. At Bellator 209, Nemkov saw his streak of four consecutive knockout victories end, winning a split decision over Phil Davis. In October we saw the grappling skills of Nemkov as he submitted Rafael Carvalho to cement himself as the divisions number one contender.
