Barnett out, Markes now face Mitrione at Bellator 241

The Bellator MMA debut of former world champion Josh Barnett has once again been delayed.

Barnett and Markes had originally been scheduled to meet in December in Hawaii. That fight was canceled on fight night due to Barnett showing up to the venue ill. This second time the fight has been cancelled due to Barnett failing medical requirements. And quite possibly having failed a test, but details on what kind of test are still vague.

Markes (19-7) will remain on the Bellator 241 card facing off against fellow UFC vet Matt “Meathead” Mitrione. Since his time with the UFC Markes has fought for the PFL, KOTC, M-1, & Shooto Brazil. The Brazilian has 12 finishes, seven have come by way of submission.

Mitrione started off his Bellator career with four straight wins, including knocking out legend Fedor Emelianenko. “Meathead” would make it to the semifinals of the Bellator heavyweight would Grand Prix losing a decision to Ryan Bader. Mitrione has 11 finishes all by knockout but looks to rebound from a TKO loss to Sergei Kharitonov.

Bellator 214 is March 13th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
