Jerome Rivera slated to face Luis Rodriguez on The Contender Series

Former LFA title challenger Jerome “The Renegade” Rivera will have his chance to impress the UFC brass in August.

First reported by swfight.com, Rivera (9-2) is going to face Luis “Lazyboy” Rodriguez (11-1) on the August 4th edition of Dana White’s Contender Series. The event will take place at the UFC Apex and is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

Rivera a Santa Fe native, had been scheduled to rematch Brandon Royval on the Contender Series, when it was scheduled for June before being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Renegade” has won his last two fight both by submission. In the main event of  Jackson’s MMA Series 27, Rivera scored the win in front of his home town forcing Gene Perez to tap. Rivera returned to Legacy Fighting Alliance this past January introducing himself to the UFC Fight Pass audience submitting Kendrick Latchman.

Rodriguez will head into the bout on a seven-fight win streak. Hailing from Mexico, “Lazyboy” has finishes in 8 of his 11 wins. A pro since 2017,  Rodriguez has his last three wins by knockout.
