Flyweight Title on the Line at UFC 255

UFC 255 on November 21st to feature a flyweight championship double header.

In his first defense of the UFC flyweight title Deiveson Figeiredo (19-1) will be challenged by former bantamweight champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt (12-3). Figreiredo won his fourth in a row submitting Joseph Benavidez to capture the vacant flyweight championship three weeks ago. At UFC 250 Garbandt scored his tenth career win by knockout, turning out Raphael Assuncao’s lights with a right hand just before the horn in the second round. The win ended a three-fight skid, combined with “No Love” hasn’t fought at 125 lbs. inside the octagon makes this a surprising move.

Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko will defend the UFC women’s flyweight title against former Titian FC & Invicta FC champion, number three ranked contender Jennifer Maia. Shevchenko had been scheduled to defend against Joanne Claderwood but was sidelined by a knee injury.  Calderwood was offered a short notice fight against Maia. Last weekend at UFC Fight Night “Brunson vs. Shahbazyan” Maia submitted Calderwood by armbar in the first round to earn the title shot. Shevchenko has been magnificent at 125 lbs. going 5-0, submitting Priscila Cachoeira, knocking out Jessica Eye, pounding out Katlyn Chookagian; and taking decisions from both Joanna Jedrzejczyk & Liz Carmouche.
