UFC Fight Night “Covington vs. Woodley” Results, Covington get late finish

The UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada is host to the UFC Fight Night “Covington vs. Woodley”. The fourteen-fight card is headlined by a top five welterweight match-up, former interim welterweight title holder Colby “Chaos” Covington against former world champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley.

Number two ranked contender Colby Covington faces his former training partner, number five ranked Tyron Woodley. The entire card streams on ESPN+. Perlims at 5 p.m. ET. Main card at 8 p.m. ET.

Countering a look kick with a right hand. Tyson Nam knocked down Jerome Rivera. The Hawaiian would follow to the floor finishing the fight from punches on the ground. Spoiling the short-notice debut of the Santa Fe native. A high volume striking attack, focusing on straight shots and body work saw Andre Ewell out duel Irwin Rivera by decision. Randy Costa makes it back to back first round knockout wins. A left hand forced Journey Newsome to slip into a left head kick turning out the lights.  TJ Laramie quickly shot in on a takedown getting caught in a Darrick Miner guillotine choke for his 22nd submission victory. Jessica Rose-Clark ends a two-fight skid by brutalizing Sarah Alpar against the cage and on the ground, with the knees particularly.  Mayra Bueno Silva collected her fifth win by submission. Getting taken to the ground, from the guard catching Mara Romero Borella in an armbar. Damon Jackson scored a huge comeback win, his fourteenth by submission, forcing Mirsad Bektic to tap from a mounted guillotine choke in the round. A three-round tactical stand-up war was decided by the low-leg kicks of David Dvorak, who wins his 2nd in the UFC, fourteenth in a row, defeating Jordan Espinosa.  A fast start saw Kevin Holland rack up the strike stats early doing his work from long distance and in the clinch. Holland survived a Darren Stewart comeback in the third to win by split decision. Mackenzie Dern took Randa Markos to the mat giving her a lesion in Jiu Jitsu. Markos escaped from a triangle choke and ompalta, succumbing to an armbar.  A wild one saw Ryan Spann & Johnny Walker both hurt from big punches. As Spann is in on a takedown, Walker  lands elbows and punches, possibly illegally to the back of the head, but getting the finish. The hype around Khamzat Chimaev continues to grow as he closes the distance on Gerald Meerschaert and the first punch thrown, a straight right, puts Meerschaert out cold. Eye pokes play a big role in the co-main event. Niko Price was hit with a point deduction for poking “Cowboy” Cerrone in both eyes in the first round. Both parties worked the body. Price unloading big punches upstairs, while Cerrone went with combinations, and even took Price’s back. After three rounds the judges returned a majority draw. A high volume in your face effort from Colby Covington who never allowed Tyron Woodley comfortable. In the fourth round Covington took Wooldey down and busted him open around both eyes. In the fifth round Woodley went for a guillotine choke. In the process of Covington escaping Woodley suffered a rib injury. Screaming out in pain the fight is stopped. Covington is back in the win column with a fifth round TKO finish.
