Shevchenko defends Flyweight Title Against Andrade at UFC 261

For the second time a former UFC strawweight champion will battle Valentina Shevchenko for flyweight supremacy.

At UFC 261 on April 24^th, Jessica Andrade will challenge Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko for her UFC flyweight title. The news was first reported by ESPN and came from UFC present Dana White.

Shevchenko (20-3) has been a force in the flyweight division. After submitting Priscial Cachoeira in her divisional debut. The 32-year-old defeated former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231 to win the vacant championship. Since then the “Bullet” has posted four successful defenses against Jessica Eye, Liz Carmouche, Katlyn Chookagian: and Jennifer Maia this past October.  

 Andrade (21-8) started her UFC career at Bantamweight going 4-3 before dropping strawweight, prior to the flyweight division being formed. Down at strawweight Andrade won her first three fights to earn a title shot. Although Andrade would fall short against Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Another three-fight win streak would give the Brazilian a second title shot. This time Andrade slammed Rose Namajunas on her head taking the title. After losing the title Andrade made the move to flyweight. In October Andrade stopped Katlyn Chookagian with a devasting right to the body. Her combination of power striking, and wrestling makes the 29-year-old a major threat to become a multi-division champion.
