Anderson Silva’s First Post UFC Fight Announced

UFC legend Anderson Silva made it no secret that he had a longstanding desire to test himself inside the boxing ring and June 19th he’ll get the chance.

The former UFC middleweight champion will face former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the headliner of “Tribute to the King” taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico, also available on pay per view. The fight will be a 10-rounder set for 180 lbs. The card will also see as exhibition between Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. against Hector Camachor Jr.

Silva (34-11-0, 1 nc in MMA) had expressed wanting to box. “The Spider” had previously engaged in negotiations to fight Roy Jones Jr. on two separate occasions. While he’s never boxed, the 45-year-old Brazilian is considered one of the greatest strikers in MMA history with 23 of his 34 wins coming by way of knockout.

Chavez Jr. (52-5-1) was unbeaten in his first 47 professional fights. Troubles making weight and issues with drugs have seen a promising career go the other way. The 35-year-old Mexican is 6-5 in his last 11-fights, but dose have 34 wins by knockout. Can’t be over looked that Chavez Jr. is indefinitely suspended in Las Vegas & Arizona according to Boxrec.
