“Blessed” to Battle “El Pantera” July 17th
Top ranked featherweights will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night on July 17th as Max “Blessed” Holloway is set to battle Yair “El Pantera” Rodriguez.
Holloway is a former featherweight champion, who after two title-fight losses to Alexander Volkanovski got back in the win column beating Calvin Kattar in January. Holloway’s title reign began by dethroning all-time great Jose Aldo and last for three defenses that included a second win over Aldo along with beat Frankie Edgar & Brain Ortega.
Rodriguez was the winner of the first TUF Latin America. In 2018 at the UFC 25th anniversary show Rodriguez scored a last second knock out of Chan Sung Jung by elbow. Ten months later Rodriguez met Jeremy Stephens and an accidental eye poked ended the fight in 15 seconds. A month later in the rematch Rodriguez beat Stephens by unanimous decision. An ankle injury forced the Mexican fighter to withdraw from a bout against Zabit Magomedshairpov that was scheduled for August. Rodriguez returns to action after a six-month suspension from USADA for failing to notify of his whereabouts.
