Top five ranked middleweights will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night on August 21st.
The contest will see number two ranked Paul Costa against number four Jared Cannonier.
Brazil’s Costa will be competing for the first time since failing to capture the UFC middleweight title at UFC 253, suffering a second round TKO loss to Israel Adesyana. The first loss in the octagon for “Borrachinha” after five wins, four by knockout. The 30-year-old was scheduled to face former champion Robert Whittaker in April but had to withdraw due to injury.
Cannonier debut in the octagon as a heavyweight going 1-1 in two fights. After going 2-3 at light-heavyweight. The “Killa Gorilla” then dropped to middleweight. The decision proved to be the correct on as Cannonier win his first three fights stopping David Brank, Anderson Silva, & Jack Hermansson. At UFC 254 the MMA Lab representative suffered a broken arm during a decision loss to Robert Whittaker.
