Professional Boxing is Back in New Mexico, Josh “Pitbull” Torres headlines Warrior’s on The Rez

A full day of pugilism will see professional Boxing returning to New Mexico on July 31st.

Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, NM will host Warrior’s on the Rez presented by Tapia & Sanchez promotions.

The day begins with doors at 10 am for the noon start time of the amateur card which will feature the debuts of the late world champion Johnny Tapia’s sons Johnny Lorenzo & Johnny Niccolai.

New Mexico state champion and former WBC title holder Josh “Pitbull” Torres (22-7-2) will be on the marquee for the main event of the pro card. “Pitbull” has 13 wins by knockout and has won seven of his last eight fights.  Frist reported by Rick Wright of the Albuquerque Journal, the South Valley Barber will be facing Jacksonville, Florida’s Andre Byrd (8-10-2). Byrd will be the obvious underdog but has managed to pull of upsets in the past, being the first to hand a loss to Gerome Quigley Jr. who went into their fight 18-0.

 The card will also feature unbeaten fighters Abel Mendoza (28-0) & Clinton Chavez (4-0). And special guest appearances by former heavyweight champion of the world James Toney, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, & actor Mickey Ward.
