Simply Results Contender Series Season 4 WK 1
The UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the first event of Dana White’s Contender Series 2021. The four-fight card features eight prospects, three of them unbeaten, competing to impress the UFC brass.
AJ Fletcher got the night going in explosive fashion as Fletcher pressured Damiani back to the fence unleashing a flying knee square to right to Damiani’s chin. Follow up punches on the ground see the ref waive off the fight in the first round. After spening the first round on his back, Victor Altamiranro was again under Carlos Candelario in the 2nd, but this time he was furiously throwing strikes. In the third round Altamirano pushed the pace edged the stirking and took home a split decision victory. Beautiful timing and escaping a tight guillotine, Joanderson Brito spent the better part of two round on top of Diego Lopes. A Brito eyepoke was spell the end of the fight in the opening part of the third round handing it over to the judges. Brito would win the technical decision. The final fight of the card saw Azamat Murzakanov push forward messing the distance throwing kicks out at Matheus Scheffel. Once Murzakanov had Scheffel baked up past the solid black line a straight left right hook combination would finish Scheffel three minutes in.

- Featherweight Bout: Joanderson Brito (12-2-1) def. Diego Lopes (19-4) (29-28 x3) technical decision
- Flyweight Bout: Victor Altamirano (10-1) def. Carlos Candelario (8-1) by (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) split decision
- Welterwweight Bout: AJ Fletcher (9-0) def. Leonardo Damiani (10-3-1) by KO (flying knee) R1
After week one of the fifth season of the Contender Series, Dana White awarded UFC contracts to AJ Fletcher, Victor Altamirano, Carlos Candelario, Joanderson Brito, & Azamat Murzakanov.
